Voice to Text

Talk, and it types.

Speak a prompt, a note or an email where you are working. Automatic paste puts the words in your chosen field; Copy is ready if the field or permission gets in the way. Built-in recognition runs on your Mac, and the original words stay in History.

Snap

Capture it. Put it to use.

Capture a region, a window or the screen. Copy or export the image, or add a quick crop and annotation. Saved Snaps stay searchable, with their originals preserved.

Annotate

Point at anything.

Pen, arrows and shapes over whatever is on screen, in any app. Press Escape and you are back in your work. A whiteboard and a break timer are one click away.

Present

Put yourself in the demo.

Show your iPhone on a clean stage, or put a live camera, profile photo or persona over your work. Turn on the voice wave when you want it to react as you speak. Each live tool has its own clear exit.

History

Nothing gets lost.

Your words, Snaps and assistant results stay in one searchable place. Original images and wording are preserved, ready to copy or reuse.

  1. Open the download.It unzips to Workbench.app.
  2. Move it into Applications.For a first install, choose Finder › Go › Home, then move it into the Applications folder there, creating the folder if needed. Already have a copy? Quit it and replace it in that same Applications folder, including /Applications. Updates can’t install from Downloads.
  3. Open it and pick a tool.Voice to Text uses a one-time ~450 MB speech-model download, which can take a few minutes. Snap, Annotate and Present work without it. Snap & Talk is available from Settings → General → Experimental features and starts off disabled.

Already using Workbench? When a new version is ready, the app’s sidebar shows Update to and its version number; choose it once. Settings › General › Updates checks now and holds the automatic options (Settings › Workbench updates before 2.5.0). Your saved work stays with you. Versions without the updater need one manual replacement first.

What it asks permission for, and when

Nothing is requested at first launch; each permission is asked for when you first use what needs it. Microphone access is requested when you first use Voice to Text or turn on React to my voice; Snap & Talk asks for it, with Screen Recording, when you choose Request capture access. Accessibility is optional, for automatic paste. Snap and Snap & Talk need Screen Recording access. Workbench does not request system-audio access or detect meetings. Camera access is used when you take a profile photo, start Persona’s camera bubble or choose device video. Drawing overlays alone need no permission.

This download is Developer ID signed and notarized by Apple. Release notes and testing details · Download checksum. If macOS reports a damaged or unsafe app, stop and report the exact message. Apple’s opening guidance explains the normal checks. A managed work Mac may need your IT team’s approval.

Updates and your saved work

After this one-time manual installation, updates come to you: when a new version is ready, the sidebar shows Update to and its version number. An update waits to restart until your active work finishes.

The sidebar’s Update to installs a ready version; Settings › General › Updates checks for one. Automatic checks and background downloads are on by default; both can be changed in Settings, and existing choices are retained. A downloaded update can install on normal Quit or when you explicitly restart an idle app. Active work defers an update-triggered restart. Versions without the updater need one manual replacement first. Saved text, scenes and settings live outside the application and survive replacement. To install a download over an existing copy, quit Workbench and replace it in the same Applications folder. If an update stopped because the app is in Downloads, quit Workbench, move Workbench.app into Applications, open it from there and try again.

Workbench and Workbench Preview keep separate libraries and settings. Installing Workbench does not copy Preview data automatically. Keep your Preview installation and saved-data folders until you have checked the work you need in Workbench. Replacing the app preserves this edition’s saved work. This edition stores its saved work under ~/Library/Application Support/Workbench.

Built-in speech runs locally after model download. A local server may forward audio if you configure it that way. See privacy details.

Which Macs it runs on

Workbench needs a Mac with an Apple M-series chip running macOS 14 or later. Check Apple menu → About This Mac. Intel Macs and Windows are not supported. Work on iPhone, iPad and the Chrome extension is paused while the Mac app comes first.
